Bio / CV

Artists Daniel Fawcett & Clara Pais have been collaborating since 2010, primarily working with moving image and performance. Central to their work is an investigation into the language of moving images, exploring how narrative and meaning are constructed. Whether making films for gallery or cinema, the subjects of creativity, imagination and the purpose of art are always present. Drawing equally on the histories of both painting and cinema, their films rest strongly on a process of visual experimentation and the transformation of the recorded image.

Daniel & Clara have made over 150 moving image works, including 9 feature-length films. Their work has been exhibited and screened internationally at galleries and film festivals including BFI, Alchemy Film & Moving Image Festival, Fabrica Gallery, Doclisboa, Microcinema Artist Moving Image, Cinemateca do MAM Rio de Janeiro, Black Box Farnham, Film Mutations Zagreb, Brighton Cine-city, Palácio das Artes Porto, and Firstsite Gallery.

Alongside their work as artists they have also programmed screenings in the UK and abroad, and they publish Film Panic Magazine, a publication dedicated to contemporary artist moving image and experimental film featuring interviews, essays, manifestos and diaries.

In May 2019 they are launching the Moving Image Salon, a monthly gathering for artists working with moving image to meet, share and discuss their work. These will take place at Film and Video Umbrella, London.

They have written for a number of publications, including AN Magazine, The Art(s) of Slow Cinema Journal, Hambre Dossier: Aberrant Intervals, Mr Bickford Discovers a New Land (Topalian & Milani Verlag, Germany) Microcinema Artists Moving Image: Then And Now (Cambridge Film Trust, UK) and Luminous Void: EFS Documents (Experimental Film Society, Ireland).

Throughout 2018 they were artists in residence at Exploding Appendix in Brighton, this included taking part in a year long interview, screenings and the production of new work.

Several of their films are distributed by The Underground Film Studio and are available on DVD & VOD.

Witches Walk and Witches Walk Monochrome are currently distributed online by Tao Films.
