2012, 66 mins, Mini-DV, colour
In this hypnotic film, an androgynous figure dressed in a costume constructed from newspapers and pages torn from books dances wildly until every last shred of paper has fallen from their body. A ritual of submission to the forces of physicality and unconscious expression, time is slowed down and expanded focusing our attention on the drama of movement and gesture. A leap in the air or thrust of the arms becomes a moment of narrative, a dramatic event in the flow of the film. Sacrificium Intellectus is a meditative and contemplative experience in which the audience participates in a ritual of surrender to the flickering colour and ecstatic music.
